Regional resurfacing contract to address deteriorated pavement in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties
Sections of Route 3, Route 46 and Route 63 will be improved

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a regional maintenance resurfacing and roadway repair project is expected to begin construction this week in northern New Jersey.

NJDOT will mill and repave deteriorated sections of asphalt and concrete roadway on three different highways in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties - at the following locations:

• The entire 3.1 mile stretch of Route 63 (Bergen Blvd.) in both directions from near 91 Street (milepost 0) in North Bergen, Hudson County to the interchange with Route 46/1&9 in Fort Lee, Bergen County.
• Route 3 in both directions from the Route 46 interchange (milepost 0) to west of CR 509/Broad Street (milepost 1.1) in Clifton City, Passaic County.
• Route 46 eastbound between Sussex Street (milepost 61.9) and Vernon Avenue (62.9) in Clifton
• Route 46 westbound from just west of the Route 20 ramp (milepost 63.17) to Sussex Street (milepost 61.9) in Clifton.

The $7.2 million contract will improve motorist safety and extend the pavement lifespan along the full width of the roadway at each location, including all travel lanes, turn lanes, shoulders and median openings. All utility hardware (manholes) will be rest within the roadway to improve final surface course rideability. The highways will be restriped and new image-detection cameras will be installed at selected intersections to replace the existing underground loop detectors.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Tilcon, Inc., is scheduled to initial construction activity on Route 63 on Monday, April 8. The work will be performed under the allowable lane closures schedule, maintaining at least one travel lane in at each location during peak period travel hours. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
