Route 208 northbound closed and detoured for emergency bridge repairs in Passaic County
Roadway expected to be reopened by the Tuesday morning commute
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the closure and detour of Route 208 northbound will continue overnight for emergency bridge repairs in Hawthorne, Passaic County.
Route 208 northbound and the left lane of Route 208 southbound will remain closed for ongoing emergency bridge repairs to utilities and to install protective shielding underneath the pedestrian overpass before Goffle Road that was damaged earlier today.
NJDOT’s contractor, IEW Corp., will continue to work to stabilize the overpass with the goal of reopening Route 208 before the Tuesday morning commute. At least one lane of Route 208 southbound will be maintained while the emergency work is taking place. The pedestrian overpass will be closed until further notice.
The following detour will be in place for Route 208 northbound:
- Motorists traveling on Route 208 northbound will be directed to take the Lincoln Avenue exit
- Turn left onto Lincoln Avenue
- Turn left onto Rock Road
- Turn left onto Goffle Road to Route 208
Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of the traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
