NJDOT completes resurfacing of twelve miles of
Route 80 eastbound in Morris County

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced the completion of an $11.4 million resurfacing project on Route 80 eastbound through Morris County.

This extensive roadway resurfacing project stretched through eight separate municipalities in Morris County beginning from the County Route 631 intersection (Milepost 28.5) to west of Fox Hill Road (Milepost 41). Fourteen existing bridge structures over I- 80 EB within the project limits were also repaired as a part of this project.

The Route 80 eastbound lanes were resurfaced in the townships of Roxbury, Jefferson, Rockaway, Denville, & Parsippany-Troy Hills, and the boroughs of Mt. Arlington, Wharton, and Rockaway in Morris County.

“The newly resurfaced roadway will provide a much steadier and safer drive for local motorists, while extending the lifespan of this stretch of Route 80,” said Commissioner Kolluri.

Primarily, the scope of the project consisted of milling +/- 2 inches and resurfacing the roadway with a super-pave asphalt surface course. The original surface was a thin-lift open-graded asphalt, which was well beyond its service life and had deteriorated badly.

The construction began on March 15, 2005. The resurfacing and striping are completed and all lanes have been opened to traffic as of February 1, 2007.

The resurfacing work was done during night-time hours with periodic single lane closures, but no permanent detour in order to minimize traffic impacts during construction.
