NJDOT announces start of drainage improvements in Hanover Township

(Trenton) –Commissioner Kris Kolluri today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) on Friday, March 2, 2007 will begin the replacement of the roadway drainage system on Route 10 in Hanover Township, Morris County.

“The new drainage system will more effectively clear storm water off of Route 10, providing the residents of Hanover with much safer driving conditions,” noted Kolluri.

The $1.3 million project will replace the existing storm drainage system on Route 10 between the Morristown & Erie Railroad grade crossing (Milepost 14) and Veterans Place (Milepost 14.4). A total of 49 new inlets and 3,700 feet of storm drainage pipe will be installed to alleviate the flooding and icing experienced on this stretch of both Route 10 and Veterans Place. A new box culvert will also be installed under the highway.

Construction will take place at night in order to mitigate traffic impacts on Route 10. Two lanes of traffic will be available in each direction from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during construction hours. Access to properties along Route 10 will be maintained throughout construction, which is scheduled to be completed by mid-October.

Beginning April 26, the entrances from Veterans Place to westbound Route 10 and Parsippany Road will close for several weeks. Motorists will be given advance notice of each closure and its associated detour route.

The project will not affect service along the Morristown & Erie Railroad line.

NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Route 10 to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during nighttime operations. Real time travel and construction information is available online at www.njcommuter.com
