NJDOT to improve drainage systems on Route 206 in Southampton

(Trenton) The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that construction of a project to upgrade the water drainage system on Route 206 and Red Lion Road in Southampton, Burlington County will begin July 9.

“Improving New Jersey’s aging highway drainage infrastructure is among my highest priorities as Commissioner of Transportation,” said Commissioner Kolluri. “This project will greatly reduce flooding, which deteriorates pavement conditions and jeopardizes motorist safety.”

This $900,000 drainage improvement project will replace the drainage systems on Route 206 between the Route 70 circle and Ridge Road and along Red Lion Road. NJDOT will replace four existing drains with larger pipes, improve six existing inlets, replace culverts, install two additional inlets and construct approximately 900 feet of storm sewer in the vicinity of Briand’s Garden Center. NJDOT also will construct a drainage ditch along the east side Route 206 at milepost 18.

The majority of work along Route 206 will take place along the shoulder and will require the closure of the shoulder during daytime hours. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction during daytime hours. The Route 206 culvert replacements will take place at night and employ alternating single-lane closures.

Construction will require a three-week closure of Red Lion Road starting Monday July 16. The following detour will be in effect during the closure:

Ridge Road to Route 206 southbound to Route 70/206 Circle and right onto Eayrestown Road.

NJDOT will install Variable Message Signs (VMS) on Route 206 to inform motorists of any change in traffic patterns during operations. Real time traffic information is available at www.njcommuter.com
