Route 9 traffic pattern changes announced
in Woodbridge
Deck repairs to bridges over New Jersey Turnpike to require longterm lane closures

(Trenton) - Route 9 lane closures are planned in each direction on the bridges over the New Jersey Turnpike in Woodbridge Township, NJDOT and Turnpike Authority (NJTA) officials today announced.

Beginning on Wednesday, September 26, NJTA’s contractor, D’Annunzio and Sons, will be closing one of the existing three travel lanes on the Route 9 northbound bridge to make deck and surface repairs. Initially, the construction zone will be located on the right (eastern) half of the bridge, with traffic shifted to the west. Upon completion of the repair work on that side of the structure, the traffic pattern change will be switched to the left (western) side of the bridge, with traffic returned to the east side. Two travel lanes will be maintained at all times, with traffic shifts utilizing the roadway shoulders. The Route 9 northbound bridge repairs are scheduled to last approximately three weeks.

On or about October 22, the contractor will begin repair work to the southbound structure over the Turnpike. That work will require similar traffic pattern changes and lane closures on Route 9 southbound. The $1 million project is expected to be complete in November.

Dynamic Message Signs will be in place at each end of the work zone to alert the motoring public of the traffic pattern changes.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
