(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a five-day closure and detour of Schuyler Avenue this week in Pompton Lakes, Passaic County.

Beginning at 7 a.m., today, Monday, May 13, until 7 p.m., Friday, May 17, Schuyler Avenue will be closed and detoured in both directions between Barbara Drive/Walnut Street and Colfax Avenue. Schuyler Avenue will be open to local traffic only. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approaches. The following detours will be in place:

  • Turn right onto Dupont Place
  • Turn left onto Walnut Street to Schuyler Avenue

Schuyler Avenue southbound

  • Turn right onto Dupont Place
  • Turn left onto Cannonball Road
  • Turn left onto Wanaque Avenue
  • Turn left onto Colfax Avenue back to Schuyler Avenue

The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
