The focus of this
study is the section
of Route 1 that passes
through South Brunswick
Township from Forrestal
Road to the southernmost
portion of North Brunswick
Township in the area
of Aaron Road (milepost
13.30 to milepost 22.50).
The existing roadway
provides for two travel
lanes in each direction,
constricting the flow
of traffic between
the six lane sections
to the north and south.
The New Jersey Department
of Transportation (NJDOT)
will determine the
appropriate methods
to eliminate or reduce
congestion and avoid
severe delays. Previous
studies have investigated
a system based transportation
approach and multi-modal
alternatives.
The first phase of
this project is Concept
Development, in which
a Purpose and Needs
Statement must be established
for the project and
concept alternatives
are developed to address
any project needs.
The Purpose and Needs
Statement will concentrate
on deficiencies along
the Route 1 Corridor
within the study limits.
Concepts will look
at initiatives such
as the Route 1 Bus
Rapid Transit (BRT),
and North Brunswick
Transit Orientated
Development (TOD).
Coordination with other
study projects in the
area will be considered
such as the Route
1 Regional Growth Strategy
Project. |
