Route 322 business closure and detour necessary for Raccoon Creek Bridge project in Gloucester County

Detour to be in place for fourteen days for bridge replacement

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced that a two-week detour would be implemented on Route 322 Business/North Main Street, allowing for the Raccoon Creek Bridge replacement and pavement rehabilitation project to advance in Harrison, Gloucester County.

Beginning at 11 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 30 and remaining in place for the next fourteen days, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, Inc. will close and detour Route 322 Business/North Main Street at Mullica Hill Bypass (Route 322 Bypass), on the north side of the bridge, and at Mullica Hill Road on the south side of the Bridge.

At the end of this closure, the bridge superstructure will be replaced and traffic will be restored in both directions on Route 322 Business/North Main Street. The following detour will be in place.

Route 322 southbound Detour (approaching closure from the north):
(From 11 p.m. Saturday, March 30 and remaining in place for fourteen days)

  • Traffic on Swedesboro Road/Route 322 or Main Street/Route 45, and Mullica Hill Bypass/Route 322 Bypass wishing to travel south will be directed to take the Mullica Hill Bypass/Route 322 Bypass to avoid the bridge closure area
  • Southbound Traffic will be directed to continue along Mullica Hill Bypass/Route 322 Bypass and proceed to the intersection at Mullica Hill Road
    • Turn right onto Mullica Hill Road
    • Continue on Mullica Hill Road until the intersection with South Main Street
    • Take a left onto Main St. to Route 45 to your destination.

Route 322 northbound Detour (approaching closure from the north):
(From 11 p.m. Saturday, March 30 and remaining in place for fourteen days)

  • Traffic heading Northbound on Main Street/Route 45 that is approaching the project area from the South will be signed to take a right at the intersection with Mullica Road/Mullica Hill Road/Route 322 Business
  • Continue on Mullica Hill Road/Route 322 Business) and proceed to the intersection with Mullica Hill Bypass/Route 322 Bypass/Clems Run Road (C.R. 623)
  • Turn left onto Mullica Hill Bypass/Route 322 Bypass
  • Continue on Mullica Hill Bypass (Route 322 Bypass) to Route 322 Business South/Route 322 West/Route 45 North (N. Main Street), and continue on to their destination.



NJDOT has designed work on the $53 million federally-funded Raccoon Creek Bridge replacement and pavement rehabilitation project to be performed in stages. The project, which began in June 2016, is expected to be completed in late 2019.

Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
